The Klamath County Sheriff Canine Unit is composed of highly trained dog handlers and canines who are trained to detect drugs, explosives and in some cases serve as protection canines.

Sergeant Steve Lewis serves as canine Ex's handler. Ex is a German Shepherd that is trained to detect explosives as well as serving as a protection canine.

Detective Sean Ferns serves as canine Shelby's handler. Shelby is a yellow lab that is trained to detect drugs.

Deputy Tracy Weiland serves as canine Cesar's handler. Cesar is a German Shepherd that is trained to detect drugs and he serves as a protection canine.

The handlers and their dogs are often called upon to search buildings prior to VIP's arriving; search schools; vehicles suspected of drug trafficking as well as attending community events to educate the pubic about their law enforcement role.
