Public Safety Announcement

On April 18th, 2013 Deputies responded to an accidental shooting where a 15 year old juvenile received a single gunshot wound to his leg. The juvenile was using a .22 caliber handgun. Handguns are very dangerous to use and handle because they are commonly carried and used with one hand. When carried with one hand when the user is moving around, if the user loses their footing the hand gun is commonly waived around in an uncontrolled manner while the person regains their footing, or protects themselves from a fall. As with any firearm, they should be handled or carried with your trigger finger outside of the trigger guard. The handgun should be carried in a holster while walking, especially in uneven ground or where footing is compromised.
