MISSION

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit is dedicated to serving the recreational boating public through education, access, environmental stewardship, and enforcement in order to provide a safe and enjoyable experience on the waterways of our county and state.

The Marine Unit patrols 28 lakes and many other rivers and waterways which comprise approximately 20% of the navigable waters of the state.

This unit is supervised by Specialty Services Sergeant Steve Lewis. He and his staff of deputies have years of experience and have been recognized by the Oregon State Marine Board as experts in the field of water safety. You will see our patrol boats on the water encouraging boater safety by providing education to enhance safe operation, and answering your questions in an effort to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the recreational boating public. The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit has a zero tolerance for boating under the influence (BUI) of motorized watercraft.

In addition to enforcement, the Marine Unit spends many hours working within our area schools teaching boating and water safety resulting in a low incidence of boating injuries and fatalities. Our mission is to help you have a safe and enjoyable experience on our waterways.
